The virtual art blog

.

My work today is a fusion of my old work in media and twenty five years of working with computers and my work as a artist.‭  ‬I find that‭ ‬computers are one of the most creative tools you can use.‭ ‬As a digital artist i do work on the web,‭ ‬in several virtual worlds and as a indie game developer.‭

‬I have started over‭ ‬10‭ ‬company's and i guess i will be a entrepreneur in the future‭ ‬as well.‭ ‬I always find new interesting projects in art and technology.‭

‬I explore community's in virtual worlds and simulators.‭ ‬Creating graphics,‭ ‬scripting and software.‭ ‬Second life,‭ ‬Opensim and game‭ ‬technology give me a chance to work on the edge of both the social web and all the different soft and hardware needed to run the new worlds i like to create.‭ ‬I am lucky to live in a age with a technology that I understand and love.‭ ‬

My work as a artist have found new ways in the digital era and to my surprise older artworks and paintings have gone full cycle and show up at quality auctions making them a foundation for new work and a inspiration for me that people still like my work.

My work

My work is mostly experimental. I always want to know what happens if you put this thing on this one. Will there be some great art then?

I have worked forever trying to find what art is all about and new media and computers are one of my greatest friends. Hacking art and soceity to find the basic code behind it all. I use  my knowledge of building hardware and writing software to do experiments in digital art and research our lifes and death.

The creation process is the same if you paint or use digital media. My work spans a lot of areas. Sometimes maybe they are to many. After art school i started out as a painter but i quickly got in to computers and the Internet. I still like to work with digital media. Exploring virtual worlds and create art for the web and games. Today i got the Oculus rift that makes it possible to bee in a alternate reality. I think art willl never be the same.

Light test for painting

I do a lot of graphic design for digital media in gaming and virtual worlds. And i love the digital camera. I do not have to work in a smelly darkroom anymore if i do not want to. I do many purely digital pictures in software and as a photographer at the hypergrid. And i also have a gallery there where i can show of my work. It is all net, servers and streaming information.

The road is open.

The work continues.

Opensim

Setting up your own world

Your own grid

Your own grid

Its possible to set up your own grid and if you want, use it behind your firewall. The Opensim software runs on both Windows and Linux. With a VPN connection you can meet and conference on your own operated islands behind the firewall.

You can find more on the Opensim software on this pages. Opensim.org

 Your own city

We do!

We do terraforming and construction of Islands and supply them in the oar file format. We also supply buildings and land files.

Some of them for free you can find more in the download section of the website.

Experimental stuff

The OSGrid is a great way to show of different oar files or test half ready stuff. The island will change from time to time and sonmetimes it will blow up in our face and not be online att all. But it have been up for three months without any interrupts once, I am proud of that.

I am trying to put out stuff here and do some freebe stuff to.

Finding us on the OSGrid

You need a account on the OSGrid (its free) to go to the island. OSGrid homepage.

The Osgrid island is often moving around (you do not have your place on the grid) but a map search for Nilsart or 2worlds2go will do it.

You do not need a supercomputer to run a island. Its often enough to use some older computers beacause the server software do not need to run any graphics. We use a MySql database on a OPENSuse installation.

We have tried out a windows XP installation and it works well.

Right now we use the XP machine to run another flavor of Opensim the Realextend software Real extend homepage

Usable: Running the development islands, the OSGrid island and also its a small render farm for Pov-ray images and it runs a webserver that we can do experimental stuff on.

connect The dev grid

Breaking stuff again and again.

Opensim is not the Second life server but its a very good way to test crazy ideas without crashing the Linden lab servers. Connections from the web to the grid. Moving and self reproducing scripts. A skyscraper script that suddenly goes crazy and make a 2000 flor building. You get the picture.

And thru a VPN tunnel its possible to sit anywhere in the world and still cooperate and test silly stuff for all developers on the internal web. Its kind of cool.
